Emily was perusing the many shops round Diagon Alley when she stumbled across Eeylops. She loved owls - there were so many of them back at her old home. She walked inside and asked, "Excuse me, please, but what type of owl might you recommend, sir?"
"Well, the snowy owl, o' course," the man said. "Just over there we've got a fair few."
Emily walked over and picked out the smallest one there was. "How much for this?"
"Thirty Galleons," the man replied, taking a small cage down from the rack and placing the little owl inside it.
"Thank you very much, sir," Emily said happily, handing over the Galleons. As she left the shop, she said to the little owl, "I'm going to call you Archimedes."

Leighton walked into Eeylops Owl Emporium with the money her aunt had given her. Her aunt wanted to be able to communicate with Leighton while she was at Hogwarts. And Drea, her cat, couldn't really do much besides sleep. So, Leighton was going to buy an owl. Leighton actually felt excited about this.

Looking at all the owls, there was this one that caught her eye. It was small and multi-colored. The owl seemed to be sleeping in its cage, a peaceful expression on its small face. Leighton felt a smile tug at the corner of her lips. The owl seemed just as calm as Drea seemed when Leighton bought her.

"I'll take this one." She stated, looking over at the shopkeeper. He nodded and held out his hand. Dropping the 10 galleons into his hand, Leighton grabbed the cage and then looked at shopkeeper again, who seemed to read her mind. "Its a boy." Leighton nodded and then walked out of the store, carrying Alyxander in his cage.

Zara wandered into Eeylops, hoping to find a cute enough owl to fit her Uncle Rabastan’s description. An eagle owl could do, she thought, but the screech owls are cuter. Decisions, decisions…
“Sir,” she called to the man at the desk, “how much for this little one?”
She pointed to a particularly small screech owl that seemed to be looking at her.
“Ten Galleons,” the man said, turning round to face her. “Oh, you want her? I don’t think you should, lass; she was returned a while ago by a boy who said that the owl would peck at him every time he went near her.”
Zara raised herself to full height and approached the tiny owl, holding her hand out to the cage. The owl immediately came at her, slowly, and nipped her finger affectionately.
“Well I’ll be damned, lass; I think she likes you,” the man said. “Ten Galleons, please.”
Zara handed over the money and took down the cage. She perused various names through her head as she exited the shop, and finally settled on DiNocta, which, from her Latin lessons taken as a young girl, meant ‘Gods of night’. That certainly would do.
