Leighton sat under a tree by the Lake, enjoying the way the sun heated up her face as her eyes scanned the pages of her mother's potion journal. The familiar scrawl was a comfort to Leighton. As was the grey cat that was currently curled up against Leighton's side, purring softly. There was a nice breeze rolling in from the water that made the heat bearable. Her long blonde hair was tied into a braid then wrapped around into a bun atop her head. Her robes was folded beside her, so she just sat in a light blue v-neck shirt and a pair of denim shorts.
Her green eyes absorbed her mother's words. Leighton could hear her mother's voice speaking as she read the messy scrawl. Leighton had a soft smile on her face, but it was a sad smile. She knew that she would never hear her mother talk about potions. Leighton would just have to read her work and pretend that she was there with her. It was a desperate feeling to realize that you had no one. Leighton knew she was getting better though. Her heart was healing. It was taking its time, but it was mending itself.
Jumping at the sound of a branch breaking, Leighton snapped her head up to glare at the person.
