Rules for Learning Spells Empty
PostSubject: Rules for Learning Spells   Rules for Learning Spells EmptySun Jan 16, 2011 4:33 pm

These rules must be followed, or your attempt to learn a spell will be denied and you must start over in order to learn the spell (not edit, not copy your story and change just the wrong bits of it, start over).

~Stories must be about you learning the spell. No off topic conversation with other characters.

~Your story must include examples of you practicing the spell. Nobody will get it right on the first try.

~Stories must be a minimum of 500 words.

~You may learn one spell learned per week. If your attempt to learn a spell is denied, you may try again until you become successful, however once you are successful, you may not post another story until the following week.

~Students may go back and learn spells beneath their grade level, however they may not jump forward to learn spells. (IE a second year may learn first year spells but a first year may not learn second year spells)

~Some spells have Prerequisites, meaning that you have to learn another spell before you can learn that one.

~God-Modeling is allowed but only if you have the express permission of a Professor to do so.

For example: I want to learn Wingardium Leviosa, which is a charm. I want to GM Professor Smith having his class. I must ask him for permission. When I have his permission, I may say general things like "Professor Smith let the students into the room and started his lesson" or "Professor Smith flicked his wand at the board to make instructions appear". I may not GM Professor Smith's specific words or thoughts, since this is not my character and that would be changing another person's intellectual property.

Any questions may be posted here and I or another staff member will answer them as soon as possible.

Rules for Learning Spells Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rules for Learning Spells   Rules for Learning Spells EmptyWed Jan 19, 2011 2:54 pm

I have a couple questions.. Firstly, you mentioned in the owl that learning the spell must take place in classes... Does this still apply? Also, would the teacher have to be the same one teaching the subject mentioned? Sorry for burdening you with all these, but this third one is my final one. With the "No Going Off Topic" What exactly would that be? Would it be for example, chatting with another student (NPC or other person) or could it involve even going so far as thinking what situations the spell might be used in, or even thinking of the advantages of having the spell?

Thank you in advance, and apologies again for asking so many questions!

It's not a problem Tommy, we knew we couldn't cover everything since we were bound to forget something.

1. Firstly, you mentioned in the owl that learning the spell must take place in classes... Does this still apply?

-- Learning the spell can take place in whatever setting you wish, however an adult character must be present at the time of your learning the spell. This can be a teacher in a class, or it could be a parent teaching you the spell during summer break.

2. Also, would the teacher have to be the same one teaching the subject mentioned?

-- No, if you choose to have an actual teacher in your story, it may be whomever you wish, with their permission.

3. With the "No Going Off Topic" What exactly would that be?

-- Use your best judgment here. A little bit of conversation is okay, but the main point of the story is you learning the spell, not the party by the lake later, or whatever the characters are talking about.
